Quick Tip - Stop Drinking Soda (and other sugar sweetened beverages)

Old School Don’t Drink Soda Ad

Being healthy and free from sickness, pain, and disease is as easy as consistently following and adhering to a large collection of small, individually healthy habits. The hard part to being healthy isn’t following those habits, but rather forming those habits one at a time and following them for long enough that they eventually become second nature.

An easy habit to create which has a massive impact is to stop drinking soda! Soda, and other sugar sweetened beverages like fruit juice might taste good, but they can have a big negative impact on your health.

According to the CDC, 5 out of 10 adults and 6 out of 10 youth drink a sugar sweetened beverage at least once a day. This equates to on average an extra 145 calories for both adults and youth consumed everyday! One 12 oz soda is 140 calories and contains 39 grams of sugar. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends limiting sugar consumption to no more than 100 calories per day (25 g) for women and 150 calories per day (37.5 g) for men. In our opinion it should be even less.

If you’re overweight and carry an unhealthy amount of body fat, then either replacing 1 soda a day with a diet soda or just water will reduce your caloric intake by ~140 and your sugar consumption by 40 grams everyday! Generally speaking, with 1 lb of fat equal to ~3555 calories, over the course of just 1 month you’ll lose 1.2 pounds of fat! Over the course of a year, 14.4 lbs of fat will be lost!

Give it a try! Replace a soda with a glass of water, diet soda, or a nutrient packed green juice for a month and see if you notice a difference. It’s one small step in the right direction which can lead to big results!
